Winston-Salem, NC. (January 22, 2021) – Horizon Strategies – a Winston-Salem based Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) – is excited to announce its recent induction into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), a Department of Defense Hiring Program.
MSEP is a one-of-a-kind partnership that seeks to improve the recruitment of military spouses into the civilian workforce worldwide. Horizon Strategies was one of 86 companies to join the partnership since its founding in 2011, bringing the total number of MSEP employers to 500.
“As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, more than 70 percent of Horizon Strategies’ employees are veterans or family members of veterans. MSEP closely reflects our values,” said Savannah Ott, operations assistant, Horizon Strategies — and a veteran and military spouse herself. “We understand the sacrifices military spouses make, as well as the wealth of experience, education and talent they offer to the workforce.”
Horizon Strategies participated in a stringent vetting process to join the partnership, which culminated in an induction ceremony in December 2020. Horizon Strategies President and Co-Founder, Bill Harmon, represented the company at the induction and noted that the guest speakers, including the Second Lady of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and the wife of the Commander of the US Space Command, welcomed the inductees, and highlighted the importance of the partnership. As a member, Horizon now has access to valuable talent through the MSEP job boards as well as partnership development opportunities, such as partner-to-partner mentoring and the Spouse Ambassador Network.
“We’re proud to be a member of such a prestigious program that works to connect military spouses with employers who understand their unique talents and circumstances,” said Ott. “Horizon hires individuals who are passionate about work that contributes to the greater good — and no one knows that better than military spouses.”
Horizon is excited to begin engaging with job-seeking military spouses. “The biggest benefit to connecting with these individuals through MSEP is it allows us to stay in the same wheelhouse,” says Ott. “Military spouses possess a strong understanding of the military and government — fields where much of Horizon’s work is conducted.”
