Rock Island Arsenal, IL (August 14, 2023) – Horizon Strategies’ expert planners, Joseph Dale and Tommy Presley, received accolades for their exemplary support in the planning and execution of First Army’s Pershing Strike 23. The deliberate command post exercise took place from July 25 – August 4, 2023, and incorporated over 3,000 personnel across several installations. Throughout the exercise, units and Soldiers were challenged with several injects and were assessed on their ability to respond and adapt.
From February – August 2023, Joseph Dale and Tommy Presley supported First Army’s mission by coordinating and publishing a FORSCOM DEPORD and five Fragmentary Orders (FRAGOs) that set the stage for operations, themes, and injects. The duo then constructed a Joint Training Information Management System (JTIMS) database, a Time-Phased Force Deployment Data (TPFDD) spreadsheet, and a Joint Operation Planning and Execution System (JOPES) build of over 3,000 separate units to support the DEPORD. Utilizing the training objectives, Joe and Tommy developed and monitored themes, storylines, and injects across four installations to evaluate First Army and Army Enterprise plans in accordance with Homeland Defense and emerging threat requirements.
Both Joe and Tommy were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation signed by First Army CSM Christopher Prosser and the Acting First Army Commander, Major General Mark Landes. They were also given a First Army G37 Coin and a First Army Lapel Pin, awarded to those who “Earn the A” by integrating themselves with the First Army team and exhibiting the professional standards required to train our Army’s future.
